Darrell Nettles is an artist known mainly for his abstract work. His paintings, drawings, sculpture and installations have been shown internationally and are included in major museums, as well as corporate and private collections. Aside from Nettles’ fine art production, his accomplishments include the set design for Morgan Jenness’ play “Fault Line”, window designs for Bergdorf Goodman in New York City and architectural designs for galleries and residences. Nettles’ love of textiles finds expression in his “Woven Canvas” series, paintings that are textiles in and of themselves. These paintings were further influenced by travels in Peru and studies of ancient Peruvian textiles. Nettles’ work in architecture, geometry and pattern led to his recent fine art series of “Tile Paintings”, based on simple images repeated and combined to form larger works. In addition to the paintings, this work has been the starting point for design proposals for the New York City subway system, designs for stained glass, designs for wrought iron gates and other design ideas. These same paintings are also the source for his first collection of rug designs.
